So, it's been a while since I've seen this one floating around. I contemplated it for a while, and then just kind of forgot about it. But, someone had brought it up again on Treefort, so I decided that maybe I'll finally answer it. I dunno why I thought "yeah I probably wouldn't be the best person to answer this." Like, I have an entire section dedicated to art on my site. But admittedly, I am just a hobbyist with it.
Either way, this one is by Stupied and can be found here if you also wish to fill it out. Hopefully this one won't take as long as the other one though.
Heads up, this has R-18 Text.
- 1.) Introduce yourself! What kind of art do you make?
- I'm Vi. Most of my art is digital, but I occasionally mess around with alcohol markers and stuff. I stick to fanart & OCs. Especially MMO OCs.
- 2.) How long have you been making art?
- Since I was 12 or 13. So 2002 or 2003. That's a long time.
- 3.) How many hours do you spend for each piece?
- These days, maybe a few hours at best.
- 4.) Do you prefer taking your time or do you like to quickly move on to the next thing?
- I like to move quicker these days. The longer I take on a piece, the more I start nitpicking and find a reason to hate it.
- 5.) When do you decide a piece is finished?
- When I add highlights and gradient maps and stuff like that.
- 6.) What part of the creation process do you enjoy the most?
- Sketching out the idea
- 7.) What part of the creation process do you dislike the most?
- The part where I actually have to check the anatomy and then cry when stuff looks wonky.
- 8.) Do you have a designated workstation or do you just work wherever?
- I suppose my desk is my workstation.
- 9.) Do you monetize you work or is it purely a hobby?
- Primarily hobby. I take commissions, but it's nothing too fancy.
- 10.) Where do you share your work? On social media or a personal websites? Do you keep to yourself and close friends?
- I used to share on Twitter, but I've left that site so many times now that I don't even have an audience there. So I share here. A lot of my stuff doesn't get posted though, so it does stay between myself and whoever I draw MS paint doodles at.
- 11.) What's an aspect of your art you enjoy?
- IDK, the goofy expressions I suppose.
- 12.) What are things you would like to improve on?
- Just going to straight up say it: I want to get good enough at anatomy to draw R-18 content.
- 13.) Are you self-taught or had formal education?
- I took art so very few times as an elective and didn't really learn anything because it was just filler elective. So moreso self-taught.
- 14.) Do you research about old techniques or stick to newer ones?
- New lol. I'm a digital artist after all.
- 15.) What do you value more, experimentation or mastery?
- Mastery lmao.
- 16.) Do you practice drawing from the arm? What other art techniques to you practice?
- I could be a lot better at that to be honest. I don't use any other techniques.
- 17.) How frequently do you do studies?
- lol. Lmao even. I've never done a study.
- 18.) Do you understand color theory? How'd you learn or do you want to?
- I cannot wrap my head around it. I should sit down and learn it.
- 19.) Favorite color(s)?
- A shade of peachy pink, followed by mint green.
- 20.) Are there colors you avoid? Do you think ugly colors exists?
- Admittedly I avoid skin tones at times because god they are tricky. Dunno if I'd say ugly colors exist though.
- 21.) Can you do perspective?
- To a degree. I'm not good at it, but I get the basics.
- 22.) Do you like doing lineart? How do you go about it?
- Yes and no. I don't hate it, but sometimes I get stumped on anatomy and that really throws me off. Which isn't really a lineart issue, but lineart highlights the issue I think.
- 23.) Do you have multiple unfinished projects? Will you ever get to finishing them?
- Yes I have so many unfinished things. No I will never finish them. Look at this website. Do I ever finish anything?
- 24.) How do you start a new piece? Do you have a plan or just figure it along the way?
- Based. On. Vibes.
- 25.) How do you handle art block?
- Crying and drawing MS paint shitposts.
- 26.) Do you listen to music or watch something while working?
- I used to do that a lot more, but I can really only draw while listening to ambient music or like Yume 2kki mixes these days.
- 27.) When are you most motivated to create? In the morning or evening? Rainy or sunny?
- Whenever I get a really stupid idea.
- 28.) Are your sketchbooks messy or aesthetically pleasing?
- Empty.
- 29.) Do you like showing sketchbooks to others?
- No. I photograph select pages from time to time, but it's really been a while.
- 30.) Do you have any art friends? IRL or online?
- Yes, to both! But I haven't talked to my IRLs in quite a while. I feel like a majority of my friends draw, because its really common in anime fandoms.
- 31.) Do you collaborate frequently with your friends? Is there something you'd like to work on together?
- I rarely do collabs. I just don't play well with other people's art I feel.
- 32.) Have you created art to gift to others? How do feel about parting away from your work?
- Yeah I've drawn people gifts. Considering I just send over a file most times, it doesn't bother me.
- 33.) Have you drawn for someone else? Like commissions or requests? Did you enjoy it?
- Yes. I love Money.
- 34.) How's your posture?
- My F/O calls my yume oc "Ebihime" for a reason. And I'm literally her sooooooooooo... Pretty bad.
- 35.) Have you ever been injured making art?
- Yes I've made my wrist very fucking sore before.
- 36.) What's a medium of art you've wanted to try / currently attempting?
- Literally everything lmao. It all looks so interesting to me.
- 37.) Do you prefer stylized or realistic art?
- Stylized. I draw anime stuff.
- 38.) Do you like hyper-realistic art?
- Ehhh I have no real opinion on it
- 39.) Do you like abstract art?
- Yes actually. I find it really neat.
- 40.) How do you feel about fine art?
- I mean, I can appreciate it for what it is. But I'm not like, heading to museums all that often. I should probably go more often, actually.
- 41.) How do you feel about outsider art? Do you think you fall in that category?
- Very interesting. I don't think I qualify for that category though. It feels very similar to vent art, and I rarely do vent art.
- 42.) Do you follow art trends?
- I'm unsure. There's some things I get from art trends, but I don't think my art is overwhelmingly influenced by them.
- 43.) Do you think your art is influenced by what's currently popular?
- Like I said before, I don't think so.
- 44.) Do you compare yourself with others? Does it affect you negatively?
- Yes. And yes.
- 45.) Your controversial art take?
- Twitter & social media are a bane to artists everywhere simply due to the reach of the algorithm and treating people like art machines and not human beings whose art deserves to be respected.
- 46.) Art related pet peeves?
- Uhhhh Anatomy evil.
- 47.) Who or what are your inspirations?
- Honestly nobody I can think of off the top of my head in particular, but I've seen such beautiful pixiv artists sometimes that I cannot help but look on in envy due to my lack of skill.
- 48.) What's an art piece / artist you wished got more attention?
- Every Lusan art in existence oops.
- 49.) Have you touch grass recently? Do you go out frequently or do you spend most of your time indoors?
- I go out like 3 or so days a week... Not like for anything exciting, just life.
- 50.) Do you create art daily?
- Uhhh, no not really.
- 51.) Do you take breaks from creating? How frequently?
- I have periods where I draw a whole lot and I have periods where I don't draw anything but shitty ms paint doodles.
- 52.) Do you set deadline for your work?
- No. That's why so many pieces are rotting.
- 53.) Do you archive your work? Do you keep old pieces?
- Yeah this website has a ton. I have even more in some folders.
- 54.) Are you embarrassed of your old work? Or are you indifferent by it?
- I'm embarrassed of most of my art tbh lmao.
- 55.) Do you seek out for criticism? How do you handle feedback?
- I mean, I don't mind it? But sometimes I am just doodling for fun and when someone shows up and tells me my art is shit it's like "thanks I already knew that."
- 56.) Are you harsh on your own work? Or do you love your work despite all it's flaws?
- Yes I am my own worst critic I'll admit.
- 57.) Do you get compliments frequently? How do feel about them?
- Sometimes? I never know how to handle them. I am really bad with accepting praise tbh probably due to other reasons...
- 58.) How do feel about the rise of generative AI? Do you use it for getting ideas or references?
- GENERATIVE AI IS A PILE OF BULLSHIT MEANT TO INFLATE PRICES OF SEVERAL SERVICES, PUT PEOPLE OUT OF WORK, MOOCH OFF THE WORK OF ANYONE WHO DARES TO EXIST ON THE INTERNET AND PUT A PEN TO PAPER, AND GENERALLY CUT CORNERS. I AM HERE TO SEE THE AI BUBBLE BURST. THAT SHIT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN PUT IN THE HANDS OF THE GENERAL POPULACE OR EVEN FUCKING COMPANIES. AI IN GENERAL SHOULD BE LIMITED TO USES IN MEDICAL FIELDS AND THAT ALONE. THERE IS NO WORLD IN WHICH ART IS MEANT TO BE MADE BY MACHINES. MACHINES CANNOT FEEL LUST, THEY CANNOT FEEL ANGER, THEY CANNOT FEEL SORROW, JUBILATION, CONTEMPT, AND SEVERAL OTHER THINGS. THUS, IT IS NOT "ARTWORK" THEY CREATE, BUT A HOLLOW IMITATION. SLOP TO BE REGURGITATED BY THOSE WHO COULD NOT CREATE FOR THEMSELVES. IT IS NOT ART.
- 59.) How do feel about tracing? What about tracing 3d models to streamline art process?
- I'm indifferent. As long as you are not tracing something 1:1 and claiming someone else's art as your own, I'm okay with it. Getting a pose from a stock image or a model is fine. Even if it's traced. Tracing can still teach something.
- 60.) Drop you art resources!
- Man I don't have anything but saved pictures that I don't remember the accounts for... Uhhh I watch Pikat sometimes.
- 61.) Do you prefer making fanart or original content?
- Fanart lmao.
- 62.) Do you think original content are more creative than fanart?
- Ehhh??? I mean there's pretty unique ideas going into fanart too. I don't want to say it's an absolute yes or no. It's a grey area. It really depends what the individual artist is doing.
- 63.) Do you strive for originality?
- Not really.
- 64.) Do you draw from imagination or heavily rely on references?
- A bit of both tbh lmao. I should probably do more studies.
- 65.) Do you think using references is a crutch?
- No and we need to stop fucking thinking like this.
- 66.) Do you like to make mood boards or scroll through Pinterest?
- I like to save a bunch of outfits, try to draw ocs in them, and then fail at posing.
- 67.) Does your work have a story behind them or do you just make things that you think look neat?
- I just draw things that look neat sometimes. Most of my mspaint shitpost doodles will have a story behind it but most of the time it's just me and a friend fucking around and poking fun at things.
- 68.) Do you think art should have a purpose?
- I think it's another grey answer. Yes, at times it should have a purpose. Sometimes, someone has something to say, and there should be art that conveys a message, no matter what that message is. But other times, I think it's fine when art doesn't have a purpose at all. Things don't always have to have a purpose, and sometimes they can simply exist.
- 69.) Favorite aesthetic?
- I really like unconventional, exaggerated bodies. Spindly stick people. Think the Bakemonogatari ending or Kikuo's album art.
- 70.) Do you have a muse or a theme you fall back to?
- I like to draw MMO characters.
- 71.) If you could eat you art, what would it taste like?
- Matcha. Because I draw so much Yamato Nikaido.
- 72.) If your work suddenly became sentient, would it adore or hate you?
- Hate me for drawing such stupid things.
- 73.) Based on previous question, can you win in a fist fight against it?
- No I don't think I could actually.
- 74.) Is your art style consistent? Do you prefer making a wide variety of art?
- Bruh even the way I respond to things or write isn't consistent. I don't think my art could ever be consistent.
- 75.) Do you revisit old concepts or sketches? Do you touch em up or leave them as is?
- Very rarely. I did redraw an old Erika Furudo picture once.
- 76.) Do you believe in talent or is it all skill?
- SKILL. YOU PUT WORK INTO THIS STUFF. YOU MIGHT NOT REALIZE IT, BUT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU HAVE PUT WORK IN TO GET AS FAR AS YOU HAVE. BE PROUD OF YOURSELF.
- 77.) What's your favorite thing to draw / make? Do you prefer making living things or still life?
- Cat boys LMAO. Are catboys living?
- 78.) Do you create your art with a specific audience in mind? Who?
- Uhhhhh MMO players I think lmao.
- 79.) How do you feel about people taking inspiration from work? Do you think art style theft is real?
- I don't care enough if people see my style and go "yeah sure I wanna try that." I am like 36 years old. Go for it kid do what you want just don't steal my art and claim it as yours.
- 80.) Do you participate in art conventions? Do you sell your work or support everyone else?
- I've never sold at AA or anything like that.
- 81.) Are you art materials expensive? Do you hoard any tools?
- I hoard shit like crazy I feel. Have you seen my room?
- 82.) Do you organize you supplies and tools systematically?
- My stuffs decently organized I feel.
- 83.) Do you clean up after a project? Or do you just leave everything lying around till you need the space?
- If I'm dead tired, I'm flopping into bed. Otherwise I clean up.
- 84.) Do you have a ritual before you start creating? Do you have a drink or some snacks?
- Open art program. Tab out to talk to s0ul or Kimi. Tab back in. Put down a few lines. Tab back out to talk to s0ul or Kimi.
- 85.) How do feel about censorship in art? Where do you draw the line for inappropriate art?
- I dislike censorship in general. I never know where to draw the line, but explicit Lolisho is where I'mma start hitting the block button on people.
- 86.) Do you censor your own art? Do you feel like you leave out details for it be socially accepted?
- No. If I learn how to draw dicks, you unfortunately have to see it.
- 87.) Do you feel intimated with starting a new projects?
- Depends on how big the project is.
- 88.) Are you scared of your art regressing? Do you think it's even possible to get worst at art?
- I get worse at art all the time. I don't fear it, it's my own damn fault.
- 89.) Do you frequently make compromises for your work? Does your art come out the way you envision them?
- Yeah, because I value finishing a piece more than I do looking at it forever and not doing shit.
- 90.) How well do you manage your mistakes? Do you stress about them?
- I stress about everything lmao. So I handle it kinda poorly and freak out and then start crashing out over my art and leave shit in the WIP file if I don't have to finish it.
- 91.) Do you make lists of things you'd like to make? Do you actual commit to them?
- Item 1: Sanji
I realized while editing this that it didn't say to make a list of items to make and commit to it, but asked the question. The answer is no, and no.
- 92.) What is your ultimate goal of your work? Like, is to tell a story, connect with others, or just to enjoy the process?
- To be able to draw R-18.
- 93.) What's something you've recently worked on that you're really proud of?
- It's a year old but:

- 94.) Do you have any dream projects? Have you started on them?
- Lmao no I just do whatever. Aside from drawing R-18. Will I start that one day? Who knows. If I suddenly start drawing dicks everywhere and they're not just like 8==D then I suppose I've started. Though actually I want to draw girls...
- 95.) Would you prefer unlimited money or unlimited time to make your projects?
- Unlimited money. So I could spend it on uhhhh... Reference material. Anime figures are reference material. The 150 dollar Seto Kaiba figma is a reference material.
- 96.) Why do you create art?
- I live for shitposting tbh.
- 97.) Are you happy with what you create?
- Ehhh.
- 98.) Do you think everyone should make art?
- YES, ACTUALLY. Just start fucking drawing. Even if its bad, draw it.
- 99.) What's advice you'd give to newer artist?
- Like I said above, "Just start fucking drawing." Even if your tool is a pen and lined paper or using ms paint. Just draw something. It doesn't have to be elaborate. You can work on that later. Just make it exist first.
- 100.) When did you finish this? How'd you feel?
- At nearly 5 AM. This felt way easier to answer than the Webmaster one tbh.
