Minecraft Builds
While going back and finally working towards putting this page online (which will unfortunately go up incomplete, but like, let's be real, that's most of my projects on this website lol), I was in a really frustrated mood about creativity and creative outlets. So I decided that I would just remove the entire first paragraph and slowly start rewriting things. It's funny to look back at how frustrated you could be one moment, and then months later you're just kinda back to whatever. Well, I won't sit there and say my minecraft life is perfect or anything like that, but it's nice to be in a better head space. Even if it's only slightly. Anyways, this will slowly get filled in as I go through old world and peak around a few old discord servers for screencaps and what not and see what I can find in terms of building pictures. I'd also like to say that I decided to start a forever world, and see if I can carry that from an old version of alpha into later updates, just to see how it evolves. That will be a project in itself but considering I'm barely on Alpha 1.2.6 right now and I'm just barely completing my first build, I think it'll be kind of fun. I don't plan on doing every version, but I will do the ones that interest me and make little modded offshoots here and there. And that should be enjoyable enough. Either way, introduction to this page aside, here's my experiences with minecraft over the years.
I don't think I have to introduce the concept of Minecraft or Minecraft modding to anyone most likely. I'll just say that for my history with Minecraft, I've been playing since the days of Alpha for sure, but I don't remember when exactly I started, but I do know that it was well before modern Creative mode was implemented. So, yeah I've been here a while I guess.
These days, while I have no real gripes with what they're doing with Vanilla, I don't tend to play Vanilla anymore. I mostly play mods, and my prefered mods are all on Fabric, so you're going to see a lot of Fabric pop up. There's some Forge, but if it's a modpack where there's either a Forge variant and a Fabric variant, I usually go for Fabric unless there's some reason for me to be on Forge. Mostly because Forge didn't used to feel nearly as well optimized, and a lot of errors getting it to work with Optifine.
Also, I realize that these days people just like to complain about Vanilla and everyone has a statement for prefering older versions or not. Personally, I don't think I need a manifesto or anything. I like CITs therefore I play mods to use CITs. I like some progression mods but some others, not so much. I think the best feeling in Minecraft is having something to do that isn't necessarily progression tied to combat. After all, I'm from the pre End days, and from the times where we had like IDK 5 biomes, no tree variants, way less than half the mobs we have now, 2 flowers, and nowhere near what we have in terms of blocks. I don't think that "modern Vanilla" feels too modded because truth be told, sometimes I run out of things I want to do in Vanilla still and I don't do half the stuff. I just like to build a bunch of little structures & I like friend servers. Especially when friends build a bunch of little structures. The version they're in or the mods they're playing doesn't exactly matter. As long as it's fun and I get to explore a bunch, that's what's fun to me.
Nov 2025 Update
So this page is going to be long. I decided to stop collapsing everything and just allow it to be out, unless it was kind of unfinished. I also decided to ditch the idea of having a forever world that simulates fake growth around the time I started and carrying it into new versions. I realized that as much as I have nostalgia for the Alpha & Beta days of Minecraft, I don't like playing them. I also kind of technically have a forever world. I unfortunately lost the latest version of the file at some point because I didn't back it up, but I have a back up to a degree. So, I'm going to make that my forever world because it's the world I constantly want to revisit when it comes to building. Or maybe I'll make a more modern pack but grab the building files and plop them into an updated version. Who knows.
For the most part, I've tried to link to mods that were mentioned. If you want a pretty good instance manager for Minecraft though, I highly suggest Prism Launcher. Started using this and never looked back. Why have 3 launchers when I could just have 1?
I'd also like to add that most times, I am using some variant of Mizuno's 16 Craft & Complimentary Reimagined shaders, with Modern Mizuno's as support. Also if you're somehow unaware of the 2 big mod sites, here's a link to Modrinth and Curseforge. Other commonly used websites are Planet Minecraft, Skindex, Shaders Wiki and the new Minecraft Wiki.
Alpha & Beta Worlds
So while digging through my stuff, I found 2 old worlds. I think one was from when everyone was having that "I don't find new Minecraft fun anymore so I'm starting a Beta World" phase that a ton of people were going through. A ton of new youtube channels popped up due to this and I found a decent amount of them enjoyable to watch, if only as background noise while I did whatever. So I attempted to go back, going back as far as god knows what version of Alpha, but also the newest Beta.
So, lets take a look at the Beta world, since the Alpha world is... just a box
Before you say "Yeah, well this is just a box as well," it's a bit more than just a box. It's a misshapen polygon. As in yeah, it's boxes stacked ontop of each other.
Honestly, there's not a lot to say about this build. It's as basic and empty as it can be. I think part of the issue is with my builds is that I've played Minecraft primarily with other people for most of the time I've been playing it, so I'm always in the habit of building structures that tend to be large and have enough space for an entire group to see them as a "base" of sorts. So, when I'm in older versions where I have less items to fill up a space, less need of large storage systems, and nobody to really share it with, things just end up incredibly empty feeling.
If there is one thing I really like here though, it's the way the leaves from old trees that died have just grouped together and stuck to the wood. They made this like, arch on the side of the house, where you can see the sky through them just slightly, so it feels very shady in that area, but it's also pretty unique. I guess sometimes the weird foliage issues can end up aiding a build at times, entirely by accident.
Anyways, I don't have any other old builds from this era that are saved. I also don't have any that I particularly remember either that I could describe. Just things like the first time me and friends discovered the placeable lava tiles, and how "creative mode" was just abusing the /give command.
Early Vanilla Memories
So, I wish I had more screencaps of some of these builds. Honestly, I've lost things due to multiple reformats and changes between computers, so naturally things went missing with time. I do remember quite a few worlds I used to have though. I wonder if I can find some of the stuff for them. One of them was a gigantic treehouse city made in a jungle biome, when those were fairly new. I think about 4 of us on the server I played on lived there. It was private, and I think there may have been up to 15 of us back then? Honestly, don't know how it didn't end up getting griefed. Still, if I ever find screencaps of that, I'll post it.
Another thing I remember was finally coming across Texturepacks I grew to really like around this time of minecraft. The one I remember using the most was Feathersong. Honestly, I was so sad when it was discontinued. Though, it is really cool to see that a user on MinecraftForum.net attempted to keep it updated. Pretty cool that it's on 1.13, but if I recall, after 1.12.2 is where everything in folders gets incredibly reorganized. They had their own 1.12.2 fix, but the download on that one no longer works, unlike the 1.13 one. So maybe I'll do a quick tweak and see if I can get the files working.
Also, you can tell how old this is solely by the fact that MCPatcher is mentioned here. For those of you who might not know what that is, it was basically support for texturepacks. These days, everything it does has been covered by Optifine. Though honestly, I haven't even used Optifine in a long time. Mostly because it doesn't play well with Fabric. Still, interesting to talk about how Minecraft and its mods have changed over the years.
If you would like to see what Feathersong looks like without having to download it or just look at screencaps, I believe a fair share of the gifs over on my graphics page use it. The bridge one comes to mind, in particular. I think SEUS was the big shader pack to use back then, so they're probably using those as well. If not those, then Sildurs Shaders were also well known.
I don't remember when exactly creative mode was put in the game. For some reason my brain places it in the early release, but that could just be me misremembering. I think I mostly associate it with the actual proper release of minecraft solely due to the fact that it became a lot more stable and a lot of the features that make creative what it is now were slowly added in once the game was properly released, rather than in beta, which is probably where it actually started. I will say, before this, I did a lot of exploring and actually engaging in the game, but there were 2 people I knew that kind of turned me off from it. Not that I'm throwing shade at them, we had fun making stuff, but any time I'd be on a server with them, one of them would always cheat in a set of diamond tools for me with full enchantments because I was "always the one behind" and it really started to discourage me from actually playing minecraft with the goal of beating the Ender Dragon or the Wither and stuff like that. My progress didn't feel like my own anymore and I couldn't just take the game at my own pace. I had to rush to do endgame or I was forcibly caught up against my will and pressured to play in that style. I remember having a really neat base set up once and then having a friend cheat in villagers and stuff and I dunno, it just always really soured me on doing anything past building. I like building. I don't really care about Minecraft progression because it's something that a lot of people I know burn through in the first day. And that gets boring. And like good on you if you want to do that, I'm not judging. But what I hate is actually the expectation to also play like that. I just want to build a house lmao.
I apologize for getting that one off my chest suddenly but I don't talk to those 2 people really anymore, due to the natural passage of time. However, that has always kinda bothered me and I figured I'd talk about it for once.
Nov 2025 update
So, fun fact, I actually remembered more about some of my worlds back in the day, even if I don't remember the entire story. I need to kind of divide them into 3 major builds though. Maybe at some point digging through my old stuff will uncover some screencaps? But who knows. I'll check a friends server.
First build was the described jungle treehouse. Truth be told it was less of a treehouse and more of a sprawling tree metropolis type thing. It wasn't well built. It was just a bunch of jungle logs connecting through an entire biome, and I think we either had large biomes on back then because biomes weren't super big. It was either that, or we got lucky and we had a bunch of jungle biome variants grouped up. It was a unique build. Maybe I'll attempt to rebuild it in something modern to give people the idea. Anyways the only way I remember this was because I found the paintings custom texture that we had all made. There was a lot of Blazblue stuff in there. With a giant painting of Ragna. What a time to be alive. Either way, this was played by 4 people: Myself, a friend that ended up in the navy, an older friend before she transitioned, and my platonic partner of sorts. It was pretty neat and I enjoyed it, even if all I did was build.
The second build was just a random assortment of houses that was meant to be some sort of like... base of sorts? This was with my maplestory guild at the time. This one wasn't spectacular. It was honestly a mess. A little area had been taken over and was just overbuilt with a ton of people's houses. This was the one that I thought was a miracle it wasn't griefed. Well, actually, considering one girl from our guild built a giant chicken death pit and was mass spawning chickens to the point the entire server would lag and crash every once in a while, I suppose it was. I'm pretty sure everyone connected via Hamachi while I hosted the server. And there's no way I have this, but I might be able to find some pictures, if I dig back far enough.
The last world was with the first set of friends. This is the time that they kind of pressured me into progressing and kind of cheated in a bunch of gear for me. I won't lie, I always felt so conflicted about that. I don't think it was out of malice, but it definitely reinforced my disregard for progress in Minecraft in favor of building, and why I primarily just play creative mode. I usually get really bored with survival, and even moreso when I'm either pestered to progress or have progress forced on me, so I just play to build. Either way, this build was just a little cobblestone village and at some point we had named a random villager Willard because... I don't even remember how he got there but he was the only one. Willard liked to walk all over my builds and be a nuisance when I was building, but I was always very against the idea of just killing NPCs. So I never killed him, I just let him be an annoyance at worst. At some point I had come online and Willard had been killed and I remember being a bit bothered by that. A friend spawned in a ton more villagers but they just weren't Willard so I didn't care. At a later date, 2 of them built a giant cobblestone statue in Willard's honor, who looked over the village, which... like I said, wasn't really anything special. I think the most unique thing about it was the little U shape that all the animal pens were in. But yeah, that's about all I remember.
I'm unsure if Willard was named due to Will in Umineko, because I was definitely into it. But I think at the time, Witch Hunt wasn't done with the translation of the game. We actually might have just recently gotten part 5 or might have been waiting on it, so it might just be a coincidence
Forge & Minecraft 1.12.2 Packs
So, as I stated here earlier, I've really not played that many 1.12.2 packs, as most times I'm playing a Forge build, I'm admittedly playing some version of Pixelmon. For those of you who don't know what Pixelmon is, it's like the predecessor to Cobblemon, but without having the aesthetics of Minecraft. It just kind of has the Pokemon models plopped in. It's not bad. I honestly like older versions of it. I did try and go back to play it though, and I realized that newer versions basically took the progression models that Cobblemon had implemented and put a bit of that in their pack. Unpopular opinion, I rather liked running a Pokeball workshop. It gave me something to do, and that gameplay loop let me balance exploration, catching, and my constant need to have a very active base. That and I just liked that instead of using resources that weren't forgotten, but actually using core minecraft progression resources (or at least early ones), just made the loop of owning a workshop feel good. I always had a reason to plant crops and stuff.
But enough about that until I find that world again and like, set it up for exploration.
I also wanted to touch briefly on RLCraft because that's something I tried, but most times it was just me and 2 friends screaming as we searched for one another and tried to survive. We ended up taking over an inn, but while trying to make a campfire so we wouldn't die of hypothermia, I accidentally lit said in on fire. And one of my friends was really mad. I doubt we have that world file but it's not like we made any progress whatsoever. I just wish I had screencaps of the fire happening still because it was kind of funny in hindsight.
Anyways, moving on. The pack I really want to talk about right now is FTB Revelation.
I won't lie, I'm not good at this pack. I honestly have no idea what I was doing, and I'm pretty sure this world is from... During Shadowbringers raids. Probably around the time of Shiva. So think like peak pandemic. But I have the world onhand. I really only took a tour of my own stuff for right now because I just... don't have any idea where anything else is. Whenever I find a few other people's base in this old build, I'll post them. But for now, have the screencaps of my base:
So, not a whole lot of spectacular screencaps, but it's kinda neat to stumble on something that's like probably 5 years old at this point and just go "Huh, so that's what I was building back then." Not like it's really all that spectacular. I might actually like upgrade the design of the base and reorganize the chests a lot. If there's anything big modpacks like this tend to have, it's a lot of items. Kinda also wanna check out what half these mods do. Might be a cool idea to sit down and like, actually learn this pack, in case we ever decide to do another server with FTB again.
Until then though, I don't really have a lot to say other than I really like making farms.
Went exploring a bit before I closed my client, and I ended up going through the nether portal. I ended up at a different base, one belonging to a friend instead of my own. However, since I didn't make a note of my coordinates, I was forced to explore to head back.
For now though, I'm going to zone out and see about putting some shaders on this pack.
Nov 2025 update
Since I'm updating a bunch of stuff at once, I figured I'd update this too. Two parts to this one. So I'll start with FTB Revelations, because that's what I was talking about beforehand.
The unfortunate part is that I couldn't get shaders working on this pack or anything else under this. But the fortunate part was that I came across a few other builds while I was messing around. I don't remember who built what, so I'm just going to show pictures of what I found.
The second part of this is related to Pixelmon.
My friend found the file for our old build. And while it took me forever to actually find our main base, I eventually found it, as well as a random other build I had done somewhere in the jungle. And you get to see a tour of both. I also found several other things while exploring the area around us, but it was just so exciting to find this old build again. I enjoyed my time in Pixelmon a lot. There was a lot of us playing on the server, and we all had a lot of fun. I think if I was able to play with a lot of people in a really casual way again, I'd love to do a Pixelmon playthrough once more, even if it is just a bunch of people doing stupid stuff. I love the older versions of Pixelmon. There's something I really enjoy about having the mechanical anvil workshop, even if people dislike those. I wish there was a mod specifically to either add it back to modern Pixelmon or add it to Cobblemon, if not both.
Anyways, before I go on a tangent comparing the two of them--Which I said I'd do at some point but rather give it it's entire own article, I'm just going to put some more pictures. Enjoy, I suppose.
First is the Jungle treehouse. I think this was meant as a research center. I'm pretty sure I was trying to spawn Mew.
Second is the main camp where everyone was. This area is a bit overcrowded, but it just be that way. Most people just lived in the main house minus 2 others, but one of them built super close. So you get a tour of his house as well.
So I won't lie, outside of the awkward fencing all around (which is mostly put there as an attempt to keep the larger randomly spawning legendaries out, but it doesn't always work), I really like the little garden with the path. The rest of the area is just a mess, but I suppose that's what happens when you have like 8+ players all using the same area as a base. Also I don't remember who labeled the electric egg area the Electric Fuckhouse but it was definitely one of the things that lived on in my memories for a good while.
Forever World (1.19.2 onwards)
I'll list my build and all the stuff to put it together here soon. I have an updated version on my Tumblr that I plan on essentially copypasting at some point, but I know having the older version and how I wedged them all together also sometimes helps, just for the sake of having it all. I might go through at some point and update some of those mods and see if I can get them to play a bit better with one another without needing to disable stuff, because another friend and myself were playing on CIT server and it was legitimately a bit of a headache getting some stuff set up. And we couldn't get Farmer's Delight running for whatever reason. And I wont lie, for some reason, not having FD kinda bums me out. I like farming mods.
Anyways, as promised, I said I would put my build at some point, so here you go. Yes, it's unfortunately all individually linked. I don't publish well put together mod packs. I dump a bunch of stuff in a folder, call it "my pack" and I call it a day.

While I'm grateful that PrismLauncher has a built in list maker that writes the HTML for me, I wish it linked to the proper versions. Perhaps another day I'll do all that, but it's already pretty late as is, so I'm going to opt to be a bit lazy at the moment.
Nov 2025 update
Wowee, am I late to getting around to this one. So basically, I found my build. Or at least a somewhat complete version of it. This one isn't the latest save, but considering looking all over for a backup of this world turned up nothing, it's fair to say its lost. It's a shame, but like, hey. This is the build I liked the most, and I have no problem rebuilding it. I might be able to find screencaps of what it was like, but at the very least, I have an incomplete version of my 2nd build and a pretty solid foundation to base it off of. I won't lie, I think this survived by the skin of it's teeth, because I just happened to have a Modrinth pack and it had the world saved to it, and that's how I got it back. Thank god for that.
So this build originally had 3 pieces to it. The first one is complete, and it's the first part I'll be going over naturally.
This part of the world was originally just me finding a place to build where I decided on making a little house over the water. Eventually, it transformed into a little town of sorts. I think there was some sort of like story I had made up, based off an OC. The idea was that it was supposed to be a little modern day coven who had taken up residence in the woods and had made a little village for themselves. It's mostly crops, crafting areas, and houses. But there's stuff like a bakery, a library, and a place for them to practice their magic or something. I remember thinking a lot about Little Witch Academia around the time I was building, and it definitely shows.
I don't think there's much commentary to put here, so I'll allow the pictures to do the talking.
The second part of this build, which I don't have complete pictures of in this moment, was based on Dunbarton in Mabinogi. Mabi has always been a game that I've been really invested in, even if I don't really play as much as I used to. It's fun in spurts, and I'll always love it. I even remade my main OC to be in this universe as her "canon" of sorts, despite her being from before I had even played it--That's how much I love this game. While I didn't build it exactly 1:1 as Dunby would be, it's layout is very much inspired by it. I'll rebuild it at some point. Until then, have some incomplete pictures. As in they're incredibly incomplete and weren't even remotely decorated yet at this stage.
The 3rd part of this build was a bit further off. And to be honest, I kind of don't mind that it's gone. I remember a bunch of housing twitters had popped up all of a sudden with poorly AI generated buildings that made no sense. And I loved scrolling them because I loved seeing the absolute abominations they were creating. I remember someone in chat had said "houses like these literally only make sense in Minecraft" and thus, I attempted to build one in Minecraft. It was just an empty building though, so I don't really miss it. Just know, it existed once, and it is only due to me not backing things up that it no longer exists. Truth be told, I mainly attempted it to see if I could make sense of what these images were trying to go for, and most times I sat there frustrated with the fact that not only did the buildings just make no damn sense, but that people were being fooled by this shit, and even complimenting these ugly houses. You know they're pretty bad fake houses when they don't even look good in Minecraft builds.
Jan 2026 update
So, I decided to get around to just generally updating everything related to this pack. Like I said in the past, it was definitely something I've been wanting to do. I just kinda went ahead and made the plunge. I feel like this will be tweaked here and there, especially as I figure out how to get different versions of the same things to play well with each other. But for now, I think I like what I have. I went ahead and combined some of the Let'sDo mods into this pack, as well as added things like seasons and Biomes o Plenty and what not. So, for now I'll hand over the mod list. Most of it is pretty much the same with newer versions, with some town stuff added in. Unfortunately I won't be seeing too much of them on my current world, cos I just kind of dumped it in here. I'll eventually get around to updating it to a later version but who knows when that will be. I don't even know what the latest update is at the moment. I assume it's still golems, but considering most of my world hinges around CIT support, I can't exactly just update on a whim. But I should definitely go looking for more CIT stuff, at the very least. Or learn how to make models. That'd be kinda neat.

So far, effortless structure has been the goat of the rebuild of the city I was making. Made it super easy to clear stuff out, as well as quickly make paths. I do however still build the walls and stuff by hand, which takes longer, but I suppose having it done the way I want rather than placing a wall only to tear parts of it down for cosmetic tweaks is just faster for me. Still, I enjoy building so it's no big deal. Anyways, I suppose that means it's picture time. Here's an update on that build so far. I haven't taken any inner shots, but most of the insides of buildings aren't decorated. I'm trying to get the outside of stuff kind of done, and then I'll go and fill everything in. Considering there's around 30ish or so individual spaces that I need to decorate as of now, and there's only going to be more added, it's faster to just build everything else out real quick. I'm hoping to start work on the other side of the town, but I suppose I have to make the bridge and path through town before I do that. I was considering making the path go all the way through, but since there's just a cliff on the other end, it might not be worth it to make that. However, what I might do is find a way to connect the two towns via a minecart or something, with like, an underwater tunnel. Should be neat.
Anyways, here's a few pictures from the work in progress:
Feb 2026 update
I am having, as the kids say, the 2 week minecraft phase right now. I added a few more packs into my usual pack, but I still need to go and test them before I decide to really update "the build." I did discover a few problems with said build where one of my CITs apparently doesn't work in 1.20.1 but I'll investigate that in the future. When I'm y'know, not swamped in work due to this website and upgrading. But at the very least, once it's live, I suppose you all have minecraft things to read through, as well as whatever else goes up. On the topic of that though, I suppose the update for the build is in order.
So, I basically finished out building most of the entire town, and I made an underground mineshaft to go between point A & B. I think with where I'm at right now, it's interior decorating time, which means I'll slowly be changing stuff here and there. And finishing out a lot of structures. Not sure what I want to build next though. I've mused about the ideas of making a field or somewhere where all the crop related stuff can shine. I also have considered seeking out a jungle biome and going ham with that, maybe even recreating my first big build that I ever made with the Jungle City. And for a while, I wanted to do a ravine based build. I tried to do one but I didn't find a ravine worth building in, so that'll be yet another thing to seek out in the future. But I also might play around with a few different builds for other modpacks before I really get into it. Apparently I've had another variant of my original build that was updated that I wanna see like... what it has in it? It's just been sitting in my stuff. I also have been getting the itch to try some other things, so that'll probably be for whenever I want to play next. I think a friend also has some packs she wants to try, so who knows. Might just do that instead.
Still, I suppose having a little gallery of what I've been mucking around with couldn't hurt. But it's also winter right now in my world so there's snow everywhere. I won't lie, the constant presence of snow exhausts me lol. It's been getting me to like... light up more stuff at least. Oh if only I could disable winter in the seasons mod lol. At the very least, I made my little crop area into a greenouse.
As I type this and look through the screencaps I've taken, I've begun to realize that I've unfortunately outgrown this build because it just doesn't have enough space for me and maybe that's why I'm beginning to slack at finishing it. Whatever I make next, I think I'll make sure it's got plenty of room to breathe and maybe not built on a mountainside... Or has a wall built before the rest of the buildings. Well, I can't say I didn't try to make a city build at least once. (I say this like as if it's accurate to the place it's based on at all.)
Misc 1.20 Stuff
So, one of the mods that I played around the time that I was trying to figure out a decent pack happened to be Better Minecraft. I believe the version of this pack I played is now called "Better Minecraft 2" and is on Fabric. I say this because they're up to BMC5 or something and the versions they're on varies. Also I have no idea where the original BMC1 is or if that even exists. Who knows.
Anyways, I remembered this because in our Ultimate server, we had a channel dedicated to this, and I scrolled a bit back, and found a bunch of pictures, yippie. This one definitely has some lore to it.
For the most part our time in this pack was pretty enjoyable. The seasons feature was fairly unique, especially with how it integrated into crops. Our build was pretty simple. It was like a little scattered village with multiple stations to do assorted things. Originally, I was going to build a bigger house where our starter house was standing, but then I had a bit of an obstruction.
Right on top of where I was building (like no joke it was like 5 blocks away) a giant tall ugly tower was built. At some point we dubbed it "The Obelisk." Myself and 2 of the others playing on the server hated this thing. It was in the center of town, making it hard to really build anything, and on top of that, the person building it wouldn't move it, and would get annoyed when we called their ugly building ugly.
The Obelisk is basically the bane of my existence. If I wasn't a nice person, I'd have griefed it. I should have actually. I was the server owner. Every day I played, this thing tormented me. Hate it here. I'm pretty sure we have the file back up somewhere but I'm uncertain as to where, considering that I was legit about to play when I got hacked at the start of last November. It's insane that it took a fucking rootkit to stop the Obelisk, because nothing else would have. I hated this thing lmao.
Funny enough, on top of it is a flower garden of the "Elpis Flowers."
1.21.8 Vanilla
So since I needed a bit of a mental break, I brought up something about Minecraft to a friend and we made a server and have just kind of been doing whatever. It's not like super exciting but it's also keeping me engaged enough when I can think of something to make. At the moment, it's one central build. We decided on something very oldschool feeling. As in, we made a big stone building that we just carved out of a hill. So yeah, went a bit retro instead of something a lot more modern. I honestly couldn't tell you what modern builds look like though, because if I look at Youtube, a bunch of super huge overbuilt 500 hours in hardcore looking videos pop up or "perfect beginner base" videos pop up and I just... Didn't feel like making that. So yeah, went for something oldschool.
Oldschool as in WE MADE A GIANT GREY RECTANGLE BABEY.
Honestly it's been a while since I've dug into a cliffside and just called that my home. It's been even longer since I've done it on survival instead of decking the place out and making something really interesting out of it. And it's been even longer since I've only been on survival and nothing more. Like, I won't lie, sometimes getting my ass beat in minecraft do kinda scare me. But I also did a lot of things I normally don't do or haven't done in a long time here. I haven't gone in and actually participated in an ender dragon fight in a very long time. I also died in said ender dragon fight but whatever. I haven't had enchanted stuff in a while, and I got all my stuff enchanted on my own. We won't mention the fact that I used Diamonds from the chest but like for the longest time, my friend had diamond armor and I just had iron and then she went ham on finding diamonds so now I'm just like okay yeah I can have diamonds. I leveled up villagers for trading. I actually found my own netherrite pieces--Which I don't know how to use but that's okay I don't have enough for a full upgrade anyways.
There's a lot more I can do, but I'll do it as I feel the desire to do so. I'll take this slowly and do things as I feel the need because I just don't want to immediately burn myself out. But it's nice to be able to do that.
I will admit, I have mostly been sticking to building but like IDK I've always been a builder. Speaking of, I suppose I'll do a little tour of our 2 weeks in this server so far.
So, the first night we played and maybe the day after? We kind of just tried to make whatever and then found a village, but I really didn't take pictures of it. It was just an attempt to survive. Nothing too interesting. But the next day or so after that, I found a mountain nearby and decided to start carving it out to make a building. After a while of setting it up, this is what our base first looked like.
The top floor was kinda just sleeping area and storage for a very long time, and the bottom area was an area for crops. It doesn't look too spectacular but we got some glass windows in and it started looking like a home.
I remember logging on later in the week to see that we had a walkway that my friend added. I also kinda added a place to breed animals, but for a long time we only had sheep and cows and chickens. I built my first redstone contraption in there to cook chickens automatically but it never really worked, so I turned it around and made it a chicken hatcher instead, but I did that quite a bit later. Either way, we spent a decent time working on getting armor to go defeat the ender dragon and what not so it was really only the basics for a while. Oh and fishing. I did a lot of fishing.
Yes we have matching YGO skins. I'm the Atem. I like to think that this is what they're doing when they're not dueling post DSOD.
Anyways, the last few days we did a bit of decorating. It's kind of a joint thing. She did most of the downstairs decorations & most of our functional stuff (Minus the kitchen, that was me.) I did most of the upstairs area which is almost all cosmetic. I just kinda made us a kitchen because for a while I had started expanding into another room but then I realized I had nothing to put into said room. Which is why I made the kitchen. I had also made another floor at some point that I left alone for a while but I finally started to do something with because we activated a raid and that pushed me to finally like... seal up the gaping hole in our building.
So yeah this is basically the Prideshipping Bedroom LOL. It doesn't really have a lot of function to it and it's all just... decorations. But I suppose it looks nice. Or at least I hope it does. I also built a rooftop garden. It extends out into another area right now as well, but I don't know what I'll do with that.
Other than that, here's another view of our base at the moment. There's some more things off in the distance that I didn't really take pictures of but it's mostly utility items, all built by my friend. I feel like she does most of the hard work and I'm just here like "I have decorated a space." Though she made the little cherry blossom trading post. It's very cute.
The Pharaoh of this server truly lives in the lap of luxury while Seto Kaiba is out there being THE GAMER. Atem Housewife Era.
Went back on the server after a week of focusing on working on the site and taking care of a lot of cleaning. And I mean a LOT. That aside, friend made the pixel art Teto & Miku, and I made a garden behind them. The goal is to have the water connect to the rooftop garden as well. But we're not there yet. For now, I just kinda capped it off as I figure out the way to connect them and make it look coherent. I have an idea about making the middle area into a glass floor and see if I can make everything cut through the middle but I'll have to ask how they feel about it, because the platforms also aren't mine. For now though, just an idea.
I think at some point I'll also make another bridge and an area for both fishing and a rainbow sheep farm area. Because it's something to do.
For now, I'll just update this little section with the fact that I had planned to build a greenhouse and I just... never finished it. Well, the next time the two of us decide to play, I'll get to work on that. But it might not be until I'm done with Starbound, and I'm going to finally tackle a lot of the post MSQ missions soon, as well as possibly due Arcana & FU, so it might be a while.
Miscellaneous Mods & Things to Try
So, I won't lie, while I was working on this page, I found myself reading through everything, double checking old packs and going "Huh, some of these are not on the versions I thought they were on. So instead of having a section for every version for every pack or general mod I've tried, I decided to do a bit of a catch all. You're not going to find super in depth thoughts here. None of these were things that I really played in for too long, but I definitely tinkered around with at some point. If not that, then they're packs I'm eyeing. So for now, I'll just give them a list and my thoughts.
First thing I want to get out of the way: Create. So, when I tried this mod, I tried a pack named Create + Cobblemon. Little did I know it was just taking the base mod for Create & the base mod for Cobblemon with no additional support, guidance, or anything. Now, I've never really played Create, but I've always wanted to try it. However, it's very much a mod that feels like it needs a whole ass tutorial. And this didn't have it. Plus, from what I've seen, it seems the Fabric vs Forge experiences are very different, considering the fact that last I looked, most of the addon mods aren't the same across both versions, and just seem to be all over the place. So, for now, I'm up in the air on which version to try, and which version of Minecraft to put said mods in. It's just a mess for me, and I suppose it's something where I'd need the advice of someone who actually plays Create before I attempt it again.
Big Chad Guys+ was another one I tried but not too in depth. I believe when I played it, it was with my Mabinogi guild at the time (who were all pretty nice people, I just couldn't keep up with 2 MMOs and thus I drifted away). I had some fun with it, but for the most part I didn't really do a whole lot past building a house. I know when we played it, there were 2 versions. BCG and BCG+Cobblemon. It seems like they've been combined into one though. Either way, decent enough pack. I liked some of the stuff that was in there for building, but we didn't really get too far in. Something to keep in mind, if I ever want to check some stuff out with friends in the future.
This is a grouping of mods I've tried together, mostly aimed at building. These ones aren't on most mod platforms, so you're going to have to manually download them, and create a new instance. They also require 1.12.2 & Forge, so prepare for them to need a decent amount of memory. With that out of the way, Minia Turia, Cocricot, and Rojiura are all really well made packs. They've got a lot of blocks and have amazing aesthetics. The only downside is that you usually have to use their texturepacks to play them, so if you're like me and you prefer Mizuno's, you might get instances of a bunch of clashing textures. That's what I usually had. Also, they all require Optifine as well. These 3 can be used together or separately.
In the same vein as the previous mods, Yuushya Townscape is another building mod. This one is a bit more up to date, being 1.19-1.21 and can be run either on Fabric or Forge. It also has a page on Curseforge if you're unable to navigate their official site. I've played with this one a lot less than the previous set of mods, but the overall feel of it is quite nice.
Another similar mod will be the upcoming Comfortbox (Twitter link). At the moment, I haven't really checked them out past being made aware of their existence, but I will definitely take a peek around their discord in the future. As you can tell, I really do love modpacks like these.
One of the last few building mods I've been meaning to check out is of course, the classic Chisels & Bits mod. I don't know how this mod has escaped my grasp over the years. I've been very well aware of it, and have definitely been quite interested in the scope of what it does. I suppose that at some point, I should finally pull off the bandaid and attempt to learn how to use it. I'm fairly sure there's quite a bit of addon mods that exist for it, as well as modpacks that implement it into other things. I guess it's time to finally give all that a look over.
Anyways, lets move onto the farming stuff.
[Let's Do] Farm & Charm is another pack I was recently made aware of. It looks absolutely great and feels like an alternative to just sticking things like Farmer's Delight or Pam's Harvestcraft into random packs. Like, I'll still generally be doing that with those two mods, but having options is always a good thing.
With that said, I was made aware of this pack and quite a few others due to a video, so instead of me just summarizing their video with a ton of links, I'll put it below.
Farmer's Paradise is the last farming pack I'll bring up for now. It's been sitting on the side of my old Modrinth app, and when I changed over to Prism, I redownloaded it. I haven't really given it much of a try, but considering it interested me, maybe I'll change that. It's another Forge pack that is more modern, so I wonder how resource intensive it'll be. Either way, hopefully it's good. I believe this also has a bit of Create in it, so maybe I'll finally be able to try that in an environment that doesn't leave me confused.
Moving on, I want to talk about world generation mods for a little bit. There's quite a few of them out there these days, and usually I only hear the two main ones talked about. So, for now I'm just going to link a little list of them rather than go in depth because there's not too much to really talk about here. They all do the same thing: They change biomes for world generation. I mainly have used Oh the Biome's You'll Go & Biomes O'Plenty, as well as the stuff from Terraformers, but I absolutely want to check out some of the others. I'm sure this list is missing some, but if I find more, I'll list them here.
- Nature's Spirit
- Oh The Biomes You'll Go
- Oh The Biomes We've Gone
- Terralith
- Biomes O'Plenty
- Regions Unexplored
- Big Globe
- Traverse
- Terrestria
- Cinderscapes
If you're going to check some of these out, I suggest looking into Distant Horizons, but mostly if your PC can handle it. Otherwise, your rig will turn into an airplane, especially with Big Globe.
The last set of modpacks I want to touch on are an interesting set. Mostly because one is the original, and the other is a reverse version of that pack. But it's a really cool concept nonetheless. However, since it's heavy on combat--something I'm not great at in modern Minecraft--I haven't really given it a full playthrough. But I did go through the world and really look around to get a feel of it, and it's really cool.
Anyways, Abyssal Ascent is a really neat premise for a mod. Not only is it a bunch of dimensions stacked seamlessly on top of one another, but you spawn in underground and you have to make it back to the surface as your end goal. The dimensions in it are all so unique, that I couldn't help but uh... Immediately get stomped the instant I spawned in because I was more focusedon looking around. Luckily for me though, Abyssal Descent is a very similar pack, and adds in more biomes than just the default set you get in an Ascent playthrough. It doesn't have the story and it feels a lot more of a sandboxy approach, being a journey to the center of the world. I won't lie, I couldn't help but be reminded of Made in Abyss which is... a topic I feel conflicted about considering some of the content in that anime. But I'll spare you all that rant on a Minecraft page and give that it's own topic at a later point.
Anyways, if there's any packs anyone thinks should be included here or that I should try out, feel free to let me know. I love looking at Minecraft packs.
At a later point, I'll cover another friend & I's modded server, as well as some of the mods I attempted to add into updated versions of my personal pack. However, it'll probably be quite some time before I touch on those. I suppose you all have something to look forward to in the future--Well, that as well as any old screencaps I happen to find. I'm still on the lookout for those.
