Bandai Spirits Maxmatic Gojo Satoru
Here's another review for you all. This will probably be a quick one. Today we're talking about Bandai Spirits Maxmatic Gojo. He's a prize figure, and one of Bandai's many lines within a line that happens to be under the Banpresto label. He's another one that belongs to a friend that I picked up at our local Miniso, where prizes tend to go for around 25 USD each. I'm unsure of his current availability at Miniso at this present moment, because last time I went, they didn't seem to have much in terms of JJK. However, most Miniso tend to have varied Bandai/Banpresto prize figures at any given time, so it's a toss up. He shouldn't be too hard to find online though, and for much cheaper if you use a proxy.
Anyways, here he is. He's pretty tall and pretty heavy feeling. Pretty simple, straightforward feeling. It's just Gojo doing an action pose. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but I think the photo on his box looks better.
Speaking of boxes, here's the box. A view of the front, back, sides, and top. It's been a while since I sent him out, but I'm pretty sure the side I didn't take a picture of either repeated the face closeup, or just the overall picture of him. The top has a label of authenticity printed onto the box rather than being a straight up sticker. Also, he has no blister. There's just cardboard and plastic bags protecting him. To fit into the box, his base is in 2 pieces, being the actual base and the stand. He also comes in a few pieces, those being the arm, torso, legs, and head if I remember. He's also pretty annoying to get back into his box, so there is that.
360 view. This is another one of those figures that's meant to be displayed from one angle only or he just looks weird. His pose looks so much goofier from other angles it's almost laughable. Other than that, most of the sculpt & paint on him is decent for a prize figures. Prize figures tend to lack shading, so I don't really tend to expect much but at the same time, Gojo's just wearing plain black clothes. Can't really mess that up.
Detail shots. Tried to take a flattering picture of his face from another angle, but god it is just not doing him any favors. Honestly, I think the face on this one is just okay. Kinda weird looking if you're viewing it not straight up. Taking pictures of him straight up require either intense zoom, getting up in his face, or struggling with focus like I did in mine. Then again, that's what happens when you don't have a good camera.
I hate this base more than usual. It's not just a plain black circle, which is the type of base I tend to hate the most, but it's a plain black circle with a giant black arm to prop the figure up. Like, I get it. There's no way they're doing a dynamic pose without something to prop him up. But I just wish it was at the very least, clear. But it's whatever, these figures are meant to be cheap, and if they were well made, they wouldn't be prizes.
Also, I will say that he wobbles a bit, but that's a given with this kind of base. Doesn't help that it was a bit annoying to get the stand into his back as well.
Overall, this is kinda a miss. Thank god it's a prize, because I'm not sure I'd justify more than the 25 my friend paid for it.
The Positives
- Affordable price point.
- General availability, especially in local shops.
- Dynamic pose.
The Negatives
- Ugly base.
- Bulky, a bit wobbly on base.
- Only looks good from one angle. From others, he looks very awkward.
- Pretty tall, so if you have smaller shelves, he might be annoying to fit.
I don't have much to say on this guy, to be quite honest. It's an average Gojo prize figure. Considering there's so many Gojo items on the market, I think that unless you really want this one, or you're just making a shrine and going for every Gojo you can get, he's worth skipping probably. There's more appealing figures at the same price point, and some way better stuff that is slightly higher but won't break the bank. Overall, I guess it depends on how into JJK you are.
