eStream 1/7 Shibuya Scramble Makima

Hello, long time no review huh? I kind of fumbled the entirety of June when it comes to being productive. Sure there were other things, but it's definitely been a bit since I put out anything related to the main focus of the site, and not just maintenance on how I want everything to look. Anyways, that changes today. We're taking a look at the 1/7 Shibuya Scramble Makima. This one is once again, not mine, and belongs to a friend who allowed me to review it. Luckily, she got to their house safe and sound where they're enjoying her a lot.

Anyways, she ended up being 19980 yen off of Amiami, and was shipped with a handful of other things. Kind of hard to say what the shipping total was considering the size of the box was way bigger than just her alone, but her price comes out to around 136 these days. Not too bad for a new figure. She's also still available on Amiami if you want to grab her.

Because she is a purchase off Amiami and not the direct eStream site, she doesn't come with the bonus face plate. If you want to go check that out, go take a look at her MFC page for user images of it. Just know that it won't be featured here.

Anyways, here's the first photo of her. I'm not gonna lie, she's a lot bigger than I thought she would be. She also doesn't look half bad. A lot of people were acting like she was a super ugly figure but I don't know, she looks fine? Maybe I'm just not the target audience. While I do like Makima, I don't think I'd buy a figure of her, to be quite honest. So I guess it's why I'm just here like "Yeah, doesn't look as bad as people are making it out to be."

Here's the pictures of her box. Let's be real here, it's not all that special. It fits the aesthetic of the series and has a window for you to see the product. Nothing too special about it. It's also pretty slim despite the size of her jacket, so I guess that's a good thing.

Blister Blister

Here's Makima in her blister. Honestly, the packaging was very secure. Lots of cushioning on certain parts from the blister, and a few sheets to protect from paint transfer. Also a giant bag around the base. Feels like excess but I suppose if it gets the figure to you without damages then its doing it's job.

I'm pretty sure she had instructions or something on there, but I don't think I took them out or even really needed them. I mean, she's 2 parts: Figure and base. She's not exactly hard to get on her base either, so no need to really go over that.

Moving on, here's Makima's 360 view. I won't lie, I feel like looking at a large bulk of these pictures for her is kinda underwhelming. Probably because it's just her putting on her coat. It's not like you can get too many interesting views of this figure from other angles, nor is there a whole lot of details.

I will say though, one thing I thought was odd was how rough some of the paint was on her coat. There was this very abrasive feeling part that was pretty hard to dust because I had left her on my desk for like 3 weeks without taking pictures of her. And because my PC is right here, naturally I needed to dust her. I don't know if this is common on all of her, it could just be an error with this particular one, but I suppose check out the back of her coat just in case.

I will say that the paintwork on her is pretty nice. The blood doesn't look overly cartoony and you can see it contrasted against the black as well.

Some close ups of her details. Or well, as close as I could get without my camera losing focus on her. I hate to say it, but there's not a lot of details I feel I can zoom in on. The biggest focus is the blood, which you can see even on her pants, but it's hard to photograph.

Anyways, here's the base. I'm just going to say it: I hate this base. Most of my issue is the size, which I get it, it has to be big because of her coat. But I hate the fact that it's as big as it is. Makes her take up a lot of shelf space. The details of making it look like concrete smattered in blood as she walks off is cool enough and it goes with the figure, but the size just has me groaning. Generally, I don't tend to dislike environment bases. I think they can be kind of cute, but this one just doesn't do it for me.

Close up of Makima's face

Overall, this is a pretty okay figure in my opinion. I just don't think she's for me, but that's fine. I'm sure there's plenty of people who would enjoy her.

The Positives

  • The face sculpt is pretty decent.
  • She's come down in price, so if you didn't pick her up immediatately and were thinking on her, at least she's cheaper.
  • Paint on her is pretty nice.

The Negatives

  • Huge base, huge coat. Takes up a lot of shelf room because of this.
  • One of those figures that is awkward to pose at alternate angles.
  • Unfortunately, her alternative face will have to be found on the aftermarket.
  • Because of the fact that Makima's poses tend to be very stoic in early CSM, a lot of her figures tend to look the same. I can't say there's anything that makes this Makima stand out from any of the others where she's wearing her usual clothes. Take that as you will.

If you're a huge fan of Makima or Chainsaw Man in particular, this figure might be worth adding to your collection. However, for the most part, I think that maybe passing on this one to get one with a smaller base could be ideal for some collectors. Not something I'd particularly buy for myself, but not necessarily a bad product? I'd say I generally feel that she's okay at best.
