HereDitail Dark Magician Girl by SK Japan

2 Reviews edited and done in one day might just be a record for me. Who knows though, I might have to change this opening depending on how fast I'm able to type this up before raid. Well, let's just hope for the best then, shall we?

Edit: Well, that didn't go according to plan. You get this after raid by a few hours.

So we're taking a look at the HereDitail Line's Dark Magician Girl (Or DMG as I'll most likely be abbreviating from here on out.) So, this line seems to be pretty new, and it really only has this figure in it so far. I'm curious to know what else will be added to this line, and I definitely hope it's more YGO figures. But either way, this was made by SK Japan, who mostly does prizes and blind boxes. They seem to be going pretty strong with the YGO license lately, as they've been releasing the MiniColle dolls. Actually, last I saw, they just released a DMG plush, so maybe I can get her before the tariff situation gets even worse.

That aside, I got her for 1936 yen, which came out to around 13 USD at the time. She was shipped with a fairly decent proxy haul, so I have no idea what she'd ship for regularly. I'd say getting her around 20-25 USD seems around fair, if you get her already imported. She shouldn't be that hard to get though, considering she's not even a year old at this point. However, when I got her, she had released 2 months prior so, prices have probably gone up by now as well. So maybe the 20-25 estimate is a bit off. I haven't looked into her aftermarket to be quite honest.

HereDitail DMG shot

Moving on, here's an overall shot of DMG. There's a lot going on this one, but I honestly realized while setting this up that I just don't have a lot of pink to go with her. Maybe I'll have to work on that, as I have quite a few pink figures. Time to get some vase fillers or something. Or scrounge around the house and see what I have.

That aside, I really do love this figure. For the price point she's at, she's super cute and fairly detailed. Definitely one of the nicest prizes that I own. Everything about her is great and I have next to no complaints. She's also really big, so I guess if you like smaller stuff, that could be something against her, but aside from that, I can't think of anything negative really.

Like Frieren, I forgot to take shots of her box and blister. She came in a simple pink cardboard box. Kinda on the flimsy side, to be quite honest. But she came with a blister instead of just a cardboard insert as well, so she's safe for the ride home. Just like the other, I'll remember to get some shorts of her box and blister at a later point.

A 360 view of DMG. Honestly, she looks pretty good from most angles. I feel like depending if you put her head on or angled, it might be a little awkward with how she looks? But nothing super noticeable. I usually angle her slightly. Anyways, the detail checks out for the most part, and the metallic paint on accents looks really good. I think my only complaint here is that the paint on everything but her hair is a bit flat. The lack of shading stands out a lot on her, and just a bit of shading could have really helped, specifically on her clothes. Like, I know the gradient in the hair isn't super accurate shading or anything (at least to my knowledge) but it definitely helps make it look more shaded. So the fact that the clothes don't have it is a bit awkward. Honestly, if I knew how to airbrush, I'd legit just airbrush a light gradient on her.

DMG Close up shot

Here's a good look at her face. Honestly, it looks really good. DMG's playful expressions are always so cute. And the blush on her cheeks always adds to it. Shes just a silly girl.

Closeup of DMG's Dress Closeup of her cape Closeup of DMG's staff

Detail shots of stuff like her dress, her cape from behind, and her staff. Not the best pictures I'll admit, but I suppose for anyone who wanted a shot of her butt, there it is. It wasn't my intention to focus on that when I took the picture, and yet it came out like that in every shot. Well, I was trying to focus on the cape, but it's whatever. I don't really have much to say here on the details minus the fact that the metallic paint really makes them pop. Though, these images, especially the first one, illustrates how sloppy the paint job is with the pink lining. It could definitely stand to be better, but considsering her price point was around 13 USD, it just kind of comes with the territory. Either way, it still generally looks nice and it's not so jarring that I notice it when she's placed on my shelf.

DMG's Magic Circle base

Anyways, here's the shot of her base. Honestly, while it can be rather big and clunky, meaning it can be hard to fit on smaller risers, the base is generally pretty nice. I love the hearts surrounding her, and putting her magic circle is always appreciated. I think the only thing to really complain about is the fact that the magic circle would look much cooler with a metallic gold paint, but I probably seem like some sort of sucker for metallic paint or something now. It's 100% not necessary, but I think it would pop a bit more.

Also, before I forget, she is fully attatched to her base. There is no removing her, as there seems to be no visible screws or anchors to detatch her from. So, keep that in mind.

There is one thing that I noticed though while looking at this picture, and I'm not sure how I never noticed it before and it's the size of her feet. They're definitely way out of proportion and should be slightly bigger. Otherwise, it just looks like she has little baby feet.

Dark Magician Girl Photo

To end this blog, I'll say that for a prize figure, this particular DMG is pretty nice. I'm unsure if I'd say she beats out every other DMG prize out there, but she's not bad for the price point. I mean, let's be real, 13 USD before shipping for a figure of this size and quality is pretty good. There's definitely issues, but I think they're generally pretty dismissable, solely due to the value you're getting here.

The Positives

  • Super affordable price point
  • Dynamic pose with a pretty neat base
  • Pretty nice attention to detail
  • Hair looks incredibly vibrant with the light gradient shading

The Negatives

  • Lacks shading on the outfit
  • Sloppy paint job in some areas
  • Anchored to her base
  • Base is rather large and thus she takes up a lot of shelf space, especially in smaller displays.
  • The weird off proportion feet are unseeable once you've noticed them.

Like Frieren, I'll get around to taking box & blister pictures at a later point. Other than that, I definitely think that if you like DMG and want to pick her up, she's pretty worth it. Good if you like prize figures, want something YGO on a budget, or don't have her.
